Improve customer experience while decreasing energy expenditure at one of the largest malls in the US.

Approach

  • Altanova was engaged to drive sustainability and consumer comfort during the expansion of a 2.8 million square foot mall.
  • We analyzed thermal and visual comfort as a result of glare, ventilation, window features, daylighting and more.

Results

  • Our solutions involved daylight harvesting and lighting sensors for a smart-controlled lighting system, combined with temperature and air quality sensors to actively modify ventilation levels to occupancy requirements.
  • Overall, our strategy helped to reduce energy consumption by over 28% compared to the baseline design.
